A code editor that stays out of your way
FreeHTMLEditor.net is a free, browser-based HTML, CSS, and JavaScript editor with instant live preview — built for the moment you just want to write code and see it work, without installing anything.
Why we built this
Most “online HTML editors” fall into two camps: heavyweight social coding platforms built around portfolios and community feeds, or bare-bones sandboxes that stop at a single text box. We wanted something in between — a real, resizable, multi-file editor with a modern dark interface, fast enough to open in a new tab and start typing in seconds, with no account wall between you and your first line of code.
What makes it different
Instant live preview
Every keystroke updates a sandboxed preview pane in real time — no save button, no refresh.
A real file manager
Organize multiple HTML files into folders, not just a single throwaway snippet.
Local-first by default
Your code is saved to your own browser’s storage. We don’t require an account to see or keep your work.
Built-in responsive testing
Switch between desktop, tablet, and mobile preview widths with one click.
Who’s behind it
FreeHTMLEditor.net is built and maintained independently, with a focus on keeping the core editor fast, free, and free of clutter. The reference and tutorial content on this site is written and reviewed by the same team that builds the tool — if you spot an error or an outdated example, we want to know (see below).
What’s next
We’re actively building out a full HTML/CSS reference library and tutorial section alongside the editor, plus additional standalone tools (a formatter, validator, minifier, and more) — all free, all usable without an account.
