Which tool do you need?

If you want to…Use this
Write a page and see it as you goOnline HTML Editor
Read code that’s squashed onto one lineHTML Formatter
Work out why a layout is brokenHTML Validator (instant check)
Confirm a page follows the HTML standard before it goes liveHTML Validator (W3C check)
Look up what a tag does and try itHTML tag reference

How the tools fit together

Each tool does one job, and they hand off to each other. Paste code from a CMS or a minified page into the formatter to make it readable, run it through the validator to find what’s wrong, then press Open in Editor to fix it with a live preview. You never have to copy and paste between tabs.

Your code stays with you. The editor, the formatter and the validator’s instant check all run in your browser, so nothing you paste reaches our servers. The only exception is the validator’s optional W3C check, which sends your code to W3C’s public validator when you press the button, and says so before you do.

Frequently asked questions

Are these HTML tools free?
Yes. Every tool is free to use with no account, no trial and no usage limits.
Do I need to install anything?
No. The tools run in any modern browser on Windows, Mac, Linux, Chromebooks and tablets. There's nothing to download.
Is the code I paste kept private?
Yes. All processing happens in your browser and nothing is uploaded or stored on our side. The one opt-in exception is the validator's W3C check, which sends your code to validator.w3.org only when you press Run W3C check.
Can I suggest a tool?
Please do. Tell us what would save you time through the contact page. Requests help decide which tool gets built next.
